Meet Barnwood Living Artist Fonzie Fitzwater

Fonzie Fitzwater’s beautiful wood-turned crafts at Barnwood Living have been a favorite of in-store shoppers. At over 80 years young, the craftsman works in his wood shop everyday turning wood into usable art—lamps, bowls, and more.

“I started building furniture several years ago after I retired from the coal mines,” he says from his home in West Virginia. “In fact, most of the furniture in our house is handmade—bedroom suites, kitchen cabinets, tables, you name it.”

The majority of his creations are from woods he discovers in Greenbrier County. On occasion, his friends bring him interesting species from their travels. So each piece is completely unique.

“Sometimes after making a bowl, you can see different things in the wood. You just know how amazing God is and it makes you appreciate the history of a tree,” says Fonzie.

“I love working with the good people at Barnwood Living,” he says. “They are just good, honest people. Very friendly and the kind of people you like to deal with.”

Fonzie’s beautiful creations can be found in-store only. Visit us in historic downtown White Sulphur Springs, WV!
