WEST VIRGINIA STATE MUSEUM
CULTURAL CENTER CABIN

This cabin was from Monaville in Logan County, WV, and was built by the Vance family, probably in the 1870s. In aboout 1905, Floyd and Nancy Vance donated the cabin to the Board of Education to be used as a one-room schoolhouse. After a new school was built, the cabin was hauled by oxen to a new location in Monaville, where it served as a home for Paris and Dessie McCoy. In February 2008, the McCoys’ daughter, Opal Lewis, donated it to the State Museum.
